Hieroglyphic River Cooter
Pseudemys concinna hieroglyphica
Description
Similar to the Red-eared slider in appearance but lacks the red markings behind the eye. Carapace is oval, smooth, and slightly serrated at the rear. Carapace is dark with and intricate pattern of yellowish lines. A “C” shape on the second plueral scute may face backwards. Head, legs, and tail are dark with yellow striping. Males have long front claws and a longer tail.

Diet
This species is more omnivorous than other map turtles, consuming more vegetation in its diet. It also consumes mollusks, insects, and fish.
Habitat
Prefers rivers with moderate current and abundant aquatic vegetation. Highly aquatic and rarely found in small streams or ponds.
Reproduction
Spends most of its time in the water. Often seen basking in the company of other turtles.
